Head Locked… Not Dread Locked by Colin Rock

head locked

not

dread locked

The white man decided that the

black man with his head locked

was

a

dreadful sight

but he

didn’t

have it

right.

Yeah, the hair was

tight and glistened

in the moon

light.

Obviously leaving him

in a

state of

fright…

but the black man was head locked

with pride,

not dread

locked.

*this poem comes from the book Authentic Hair Photos, Poems, and Prose Celebrating the beauty of versatility of natural hair by Ademola Mandela. Poet Colin Rock.
